Some days, the world is too loud, for a quiet soul.

In the Western philosophical tradition, “nothing” is often related to nihilism, a concept that developed especially in the 19th century. Nihilism holds, in general, that life lacks inherent meaning, value or purpose…

In Nishida’s philosophy, “nothing” is the source of all creation and change. It is a primordial reality in which all dualities, such as being and not being, subject and object, unite and unfold. This “nothing” is not a desperate nihilism, but a foundation for creativity and the interrelation between all things. Rather than being an absence of meaning, it is the field in which meanings emerge and dissolve.

Lao-tzu says, “The scholar learns something every day, the man of tao unlearns something every day, until he gets back to non-doing.”

Just simply, without comment, without an idea in your head, be aware. What else can you do?

Listen to your chattering thoughts as you would listen to the singing of a kettle.

~ Alan Watts
