I met Mercedes in Sucre, a town on the interior of the Caribbean coast …One day, at a student dance, and when she was only thirteen years old, I asked her to marry me. I think now that the proposal was a metaphor to jump above all the twists and turns I had to do back then to get a girlfriend.
