True Existence and Identity

It would be convenient if there were just two or three culprits or conspicuous “bad guys” who are responsible for the explosive tinderbox situation the dysfunctional family of man currently is in, but such is not the case. Sure, there are key players who are in a position to ignite the fire or create fissures in the dam. There are, to be sure, dangerous and unfit captains at the helm.
…What must first be recognized by a critical mass — and then put into action — is the idea that this old pattern will not and cannot keep repeating itself if enough of us act upon our decent impulses and, instead of taking sides for one part of the family against another, begin the long patient work of forgiveness, healing the old wounds, and erasing the lines of division. And of course this work necessarily begins within oneself. Unless and until we become whole and united within our own hearts, minds, and souls, we will remain vulnerable to infection by the divisive, hateful passions we will unavoidably encounter in those we wish to enlighten or heal.
