There are so many different kinds of bilingual and polyglot people that it boggles the mind. As a native English speaker, writing is not a problem, but in French, which I learned speaking daily after age 20, I write badly, although reading and speaking are easy. I do call myself bilingual, though, because I spent so many years living with French people in France that my thinking mutated to a French optic on things. At one point I felt my English shrinking, to my alarm. I realized then I couldn’t take it for granted, that a language takes constant exercise to keep it alive.
