Edward Robert Hughes, Dream Idyll (A Valkyrie), 1902

You see, son, we’re lost.” Men, all, humanity, is going down the wrong path, terribly dangerous. It started a long, long time ago, when we were still living in the caves or maybe before. The first thing man felt when he became human was fear. It was terrible, I was afraid of everything, the wild, the thunder, the dark. But instead of adapting to nature, sharing with her his destiny, making friends, man began to defend himself. Fear is a bad advisor. Communication between men turned into violence. Although communication would have been and should have been, their greatest delight..

-from the film “The Sacrifice”, 1989, by Andrei Tarkovski-

~ Richelle E. Goodrich
