The Secret Self
Many women, on their journey towards consciousness, have tried for many years to free their volcano with some civilized moderation. Men are starting to realize that they also own a volcano.
Sometimes in my lectures, as I try to explain why women are so devastated by men’s behavior, men just up and leave. After the lecture, sometimes I get to ask them why they got up. “I go through a situation similar to the one you described in my own life,” said one of them. “I can’t fix her, and I can’t bear to know how she feels.”

I was talking the other day with an Atheist friend who had participated in a fire walking ceremony. If I understood her correctly, walking across coals wasn’t as impressive as another part of the ceremony where she was asked to commit her painful memories to the fire.
There were tears in my friend’s eyes as she shared the feelings that surfaced during the ritual. She still did not believe in God, she still did not believe in magic, but she experienced a profound and deeply moving reverence during the ritual.
