Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky (Russian/Armenian, 1817–1900)

“Ideally, what should be said to every child, repeatedly, throughout his or her school life is something like this: “You are in the process of being indoctrinated. We have not yet evolved a system of education that is not a system of indoctrination. We are sorry, but it is the best we can do. What you are being taught here is an amalgam of current prejudice and the choices of this particular culture. The slightest look at history will show how impermanent these must be. You are being taught by people who have been able to accommodate themselves to a regime of thought laid down by their predecessors. It is a self-perpetuating system. Those of you who are more robust and individual than others will be encouraged to leave and find ways of educating yourself — educating your own judgements. Those that stay must remember, always, and all the time, that they are being moulded and patterned to fit into the narrow and particular needs of this particular society.”

— Dorris Lessing

“They will try by all means that the “awake” cannot communicate so as not to wake up others. They will try by all means that the awakened are seen as insane or delinquents. Whatever they do, it doesn’t matter. The quantum leap has already occurred. It is unstoppable. Humanity already contemplates plants and animals as souls that animate them. Humanity already respects mother earth. Humanity already understands that there is no separation.
The souls who are now incarnating already come as teachers. No more experimenting. They only incarnate to teach to love.”

THEY UNDERESTIMATE US

— Alejandro Jodorowsky

We’re just now realizing how deep our conditioning goes, how thoroughly we have been indoctrinated. As increasing numbers of humans peel off from the received wisdom of separation the more the old system will panic.

I think that’s what we’re seeing now, the willingness of the members of the old belief system to resort to desperate measures to save and reconstitute the partial concepts of survival. They haven’t made the connection between that vision and the fact that the world is dying. They haven’t taken responsibility for killing the source and soul of the world. Narrow self interest is all they know and they’re willing to excuse any crime in its service.

Yet there is another kind of human arising, one with a broader concern and a deeper vision. They are shocked and grief-stricken watching this drama play out. Death is sweeping across the planet. What humans have perpetrated on the web of life is reaching into human populations via pandemics caused by human ignorance and indifference to the suffering of others, including non-human others.

We are challenged to become more fully human or else go extinct. It’s a dramatic situation that we face because it challenges us to care, to grieve our self-inflicted wounds and to become healers in whatever way we can. The survival of the planet depends now on whether we humans are capable of a more encompassing vision of the heart.

Basic to this process of spiritual evolution is realizing how cruel we are, how small we are and have been, recognizing our long history of lies and blindness. All we have been historically will have to be seen and dealt with. We are generally very far from that now, but until we look clearly at our cultural roots and perceive the karma we’ve created, I don’t think we’ll make much progress.

Our roots go down into contaminated cultural soil. Small adjustments in attitude will not be enough to turn the tide. The present emergency will not just disappear in the natural course of events. It’s going to take a new vision, a new more empathetic consciousness, a new kind of human. If you’re alive now, this may be why.
