Fechner tells how on a spring morning, while a transfiguring light cast a halo over the face of the earth, he was struck not merely by the esthetic idea, but by the vision and concrete evidence that “the Earth is an Angel, such a gorgeously real Angel, so like a flower!” Henri Corbin
Visionaries see beneath everyday appearances and report insights that could at the very least, give us pause. They persist, these visionaries, even if we call them fools and shun them. Fortunately, some of them put their insights into script that can be read at a later date.
The Church no longer has the power to muzzle their visionaries, but these old texts are often buried in places where it’s unlikely they will ever see the light of day. In any case, few people speak the old languages, and even if they do, getting these insights interpreted and published is unlikely. The modern mind is not tuned to these ideas.
And yet, we are starved for these perspectives, these visions of a deeper reality. In our age, we suffer from an anorexia of vision, of meaning, of purpose and beauty.
