Adam Shaw, Heart outside the body

When animals express their feelings they pour out like water from a spout. Animals’ emotions are raw, unfiltered, and uncontrolled. Their joy is the purest and most contagious of joys and their grief the deepest and most devastating. Their passions bring us to our knees in delight and sorrow.

― Marc Bekoff, The Emotional Lives of Animals

We perceive that there are actions by performing that would be less visible to ourselves and to what is most precious to us, resulting in us being terribly ashamed in front of our conscience and not being able to stand existing with such a bad and soiled self. Ethics appears here as an aesthetic matter that feeds on love for beauty and cleanliness. It is the aesthetic foundation of ethics, in the sense that the original motivating experience is of an aesthetic type, it descends from a kind of attraction for the beauty of justice.

— Hannah Arendt

— Haruki Murakami
