Reality cannot be ignored except at a price; and the longer the ignorance is persisted in the higher and more terrible the price that must be paid.

There is only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that’s your own self.

The goal in life is to discover that you’ve always been where you were supposed to be.

~ Aldous Huxley

Nyoshul Lungtok had said very little all evening. Patrul Rinpoche (who called himself “old dog”) was doing the meditation called Namkha Sumthrug stretched out on his back lying on a woolen carpet and gazing at the night sky. He called Nyoshul over, saying: “Lungtok dear (he called everyone “dear’), didn’t you tell me that you still did not know the essence of the mind?”

Nyoshul Lungtok replied: Yes, that’s right.

It’s very simple, Rinpoche said, and beckoned Nyoshui Lungtok to come lay down next to him. So he did so.

Then Patrul Rinpoche asked him, in a very kind, soft way: Do you see the stars in the sky?

Yes

Do you hear the dogs barking down at Dzogchen monastery?

Yes.

Do you hear what I am saying to you?
