Paris is like any international city. It’s French but not as French as the rest of the country. The first time I went to Paris, in 1963, nobody spoke English. Thirty years later, everybody wanted to try out their English, which made it hard to learn French. Better to try Lyon or Angers. I was always counselled to avoid Provence, but I actually like that accent. It’s got an Italian flavor in the East and a Spanish influence in the west. After ten years trying different places in France we ended up in a tiny village in the Jura for twenty five years, They have a kind of drawl, somewhat like the Swiss French accent. I didn’t pick it up because I had already solidified my accent by then.
