Of course it’s not categorical that men are more ascending and women more earthy, but when a person is all one or the other their spirituality is distorted by their psychology. I also think human beings need a balance of masculine/feminine to have both relatedness and all that implies, as well as high aspirations and analysis. I do think our culture is unbalanced toward ascension, which persuades us that the earth hardly matters, that relationship and tenderness are beside the point, that what’s inspiring is more power and more and better tools. There are people who have a good balance between masculine and feminine perspectives, but in our culture that’s rare, and I do believe that makes for an incomplete spirituality. I’m doubtful about any spirituality expressed by an unbalanced psychology.
