Mothers of The Buddha
… The couple shared their marital woes with Thay, typical troubles for those who are privileged. I listened rather dismayed, thinking that this was maybe not such a good use of Thich Nhat Hanh’s time. When they asked him what they should do, Thay paused for a rather long time. I wondered: “What was he thinking?” Then he said one simple and mad sentence: “Go to India and work in a leper colony.” I gasped inwardly. Good advice, I thought. Very good. Who would have thought up this one, I silently asked myself? The best prescription for ending marital dissension I had ever heard.
