Every (John) Cassavetes film is always about the same thing. Somebody said ‘Man is God in ruins,’ and John saw the ruins with a clarity that you and I could not tolerate.

On one retreat, he asked the Swami a question. To paraphrase the practitioner: “ I come to the temple and meditate for retreats. I find it very helpful. Then I return to my regular life and chase women, smoke and drink. What do you think about this? Should I give these things up to become Self Realized?”

The Swami asked him, “Do you enjoy these things?” The man said “ Yes. Very much!” The Swami replied “Then you may continue.”

The Swami replied, “When you have fully absorbed what it is I am teaching, you will no longer enjoy these things. Until then, you may continue.”

It is all a function of consciousness. Decide what is right for you and give it a try. May the results you want find you quickly to let you know you are on the right path.
