As my prayer became more attentive and inward

I had less and less to say.

not merely being silent.

Silence is golden, we’re told as children, but we live in a very talkative and noisy culture. Things the natives of the American continent knew and taught their children we still have to learn. We’re both too slow and too arrogant to take lessons from people who hadn’t invented gunpowder. We couldn’t see the balanced relationships their cultures had with nature and between men and women. We just wanted their land.
