A friend of mine — referring to a rather grim prognostication of mine on Facebook from last week — wrote: “I see you have abandoned the cerebral discussions of philosophy in favor of expounding on the approaching apocalypse.”

While she intended, in a snarky way, to upbraid me for “descending” into the melodramatic role of the cranky prophet of doom, I was prompted… to reflect on something I recalled from William Blake. While I forget the exact quote, he wrote something to the effect that the “artist” (his name for anyone who lives in the realm of the divine imagination) dwells in a 𝑐𝑜𝑛𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑢𝑎𝑙 𝑎𝑝𝑜𝑐𝑎𝑙𝑦𝑝𝑠𝑒.

The original Greek word 𝑎𝑝𝑜𝑘𝑎𝑙𝑦𝑝𝑠𝑖𝑠 means “lifting the veil.”

My suggestion: Bring the apocalypse 𝑖𝑛𝑑𝑜𝑜𝑟𝑠… I can personally guarantee you that any leader or preacher or prophet who promises that he can deport, disenfranchise, muzzle, or and annihilate your hated enemies is almost surely a deluded liar and a menace to his fellow man.

…Get to work on your own mess. It’s not out there. It’s working 𝑖𝑛 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑜𝑤𝑛 𝑠ℎ𝑎𝑑𝑜𝑤𝑠 and nothing short of an internal apocalypse can bring things to light.
