My little body was often told to go hide to cry. My tears were not acceptable nor welcome by my foster mother. After slapping me in the face for crying, I was sent to my room because she was did not want to see pain. It is with compassion that I see that her attitude, discomfort were the product of her childhood and psycho-cultural attitude towards crying. Previous generations were not given the psycho-ed we are fortunate to receive today — they had to overrun their emotional world to keep working through the devastating paths of wars.

Capitalism is a system that normalizes, empowers, and encourages the exploitation and marginalization of populations with less power — specifically Black and Indigenous folks, but also fat people, Autistic people, Queer people — my people, me.

I was doing my part to uphold white supremacy and the patriarchy without even realizing it.

I ask: what feels most fun, more playful, most joyful, most creative?

I say: Forget the rules. Forget sales and marketing. Let’s focus on creativity.
