I’ve had to work not to be cryptic. I forget that nobody can read my mind. I have to be a bit more fulsome in my phrasing not to keep people guessing. (I also tend to think everybody talks too much).

Having said that, my pieces have grown from 300 words to around 600. I can’t imagine a thousand word story, though.
