I'm an American. I was born in America of people who had lived there for 300 years. Yet, I feel like an immigrant. I left early and stayed abroad for more than half my adult life. I came back five years ago to discover a culture that reminded me why I left. For me, it's a lost home, a lost past, but its present incarnation is infinitely worse than what I left.

I can only hope that America finds its heart and soul in the future.
