I was surprised and disappointed that academic work was so ineffective for me. I have to learn a language via constant communication with a native speaker. It’s more like playing an instrument than math. It involves putting sounds and gestures with some visual linguistic learning as backup. I’m bothered by hearing a non native accent because I imitate what I hear. I have to stick with native sounds. You don’t get enough of that in a class with other students.

I’m in Mexico now, so Spanish is next.
