Just as monks take vows of poverty and chastity, you can take vows of beauty, service, loving care….

Joy is not like fun.

True joy will arise spontaneously when obstacles are removed, releasing the imprisoned life force energies of mind and body.

Fun is simply a manufactured commodity that shakes us until we feel giddy; making a hollow promise to release us into the freedom of joy that we innately crave.

“The doors to the world of the wild Self are few but precious. If you have a deep scar, that is a door, if you have an old, old story, that is a door. If you love the sky and the water so much you almost cannot bear it, that is a door. If you yearn for a deeper life, a full life, a sane life, that is a door.”

― Clarissa Pinkola Estés

In every living thing, there is a desire for love.

“Are we not at every instance living the experience of a universe whose immensity, by the play of our senses and reason, is gathered up more and more simply in each one of us? Are we not experiencing the first symptoms of an aggregation of a still higher order, the birth of some single center from the convergent beams of millions of centers dispersed over the surface of the thinking earth?”

— Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

I have always liked creating through words and images. I’m searching for that moment of visual enchantment or when I nod my head and laugh at an unexpected epiphany. No creative effort can satisfy without one or both of those moments.

I am drawn back into the creative process over and over via these soul satisfying moments, fleeting though they are. For me, the process is like gardening. You prepare the ground a little and then you wait for the sun and rain to come and for your little seed to take root and sprout among its relatives. Invisible forces come to bear.

The plant grows almost by itself, without my help. All around it, my other works call to it, nurture it and lend it…
