For man seems to be unable to live without myth, without the belief that the routine and drudgery, the pain and fear of this life have some meaning and goal in the future… Yet the very violence of these political religions betrays the anxiety beneath them — for they are but men huddling together and shouting to give themselves courage in the dark.

~Alan Watts

The word “I” embodies the greatest error and the deepest truth…, “I” embodies the primordial error, a misperception of who you are, an illusory sense of identity…Your reality becomes a reflection of the original illusion.

— Eckhart Tolle

My father suffered with Alzheimer’s for 12 years…My mother came to see him every evening and feed him supper. I think he remembered her for that reason, because he saw her face every day.

At the same time that this was happening, my sister had been battling leukemia, and when the day came that she passed away, we asked my fathers physician if we should tell him; if he would even understand. His doctor said that sadly he couldn’t…so we did not tell him of my dear sister Karin’s passing.

The next day my mother stopped in to see my father briefly and feed him his supper. When she entered the room he was sitting up in bed, eyes wide and focused.
