Whether you are in ego consciousness or unity consciousness is not really the point. I have met many people who have easy access to advanced states of consciousness. Though for some people this may come very easily, I also notice that many of these people are no freer than anyone else. If you don’t believe that the ego can exist in very advanced states of consciousness, think again. The point isn’t the state of consciousness, even very advanced ones, but an awake mystery that is the source of all states of consciousness. It is even the source of presence and beingness. It is beyond all perception and all experience. I call it “awakeness.

~ Adyashanti, Selling Water by the River

I laid back to meditate,

see if there was a poem.

There, one appeared.

I waited.

It drew closer.

I reached out to grasp it,

but because my feet

were not in this world,

I could not bring it down.

When my fingers

closed round it,

it dissolved like a cloud.

I waited again.

My hands grew cold,

and I came back.

All I have for you

is its dust.

~David Reid

No my soul is not asleep.

It is awake, wide awake.

It neither sleeps nor dreams,

but watches, its clear eyes open,

far-off things, and listens at the

shore of a great silence.

~ Antonio Machado

Living in the busy-mind realm we can’t hear or see the actual world around us. Our ears are full of words and our eyes are full of drama, all happening within our own body/mind. In a moment of inner silence, accidental or not, a bird call is piercing and miraculous because you can actually hear it. You’re not distracted by unresolved stories or incessant self talk. When we can see the reality of the world we can’t help…
